P.D.O. Threads: What are they and why do I love them?

What are P.D.O. Threads?

PDO threads are a revolutionary treatment for skin tightening, lifting, filling and smoothing. The threads are made of PDO (polydioxanone) suture material which have been used in pediatric heart surgery for many years. These sutures stimulate new collagen production around the area that they are placed. In facial cosmetic procedures, these threads are gently placed under the skin in desired areas. Therefore, when placed they can stimulate your own new, natural collagen and replace what has been lost due to aging.   Two basic types of threads available are “smooth” and “lifting” and they each have their own indication. When inserted under the skin, the PDO “lifting” threads act as an “elevating scaffold” which helps to tighten and lift the skin against the effects of gravity and drooping. The mesh of PDO “smooth” threads will also resurface the face by filling, smoothing and supporting sagging structures, wrinkles and pits. Both types of threads are completely resorbed in 4-6 months leaving the new youthful collagen which typically continues to give results for years.

What are the benefits of P.D.O. Threads?

·         The procedure is safe, no down time and minimal bruising.
·         It can be done under topical or local anesthesia.
·         Procedures usually take from 30-60 minutes.
·         Results begin immediately and will be long lasting.
·        The presence of the threads stimulates natural collagen production.
As the threads are reabsorbed you will benefit from the new collagen present
·         Reduces sagging, tightens skin, fills wrinkles, lifts face, smooths irregular skin surface
·         Can be easily reversed if desired

Who is a good candidate for P.D.O. Thread use?
PDO Threads are suited for patients who are experiencing the traditional signs of aging such as sagging in their face and loss of volume. Patients of any age can be good candidates and very few medical conditions are contraindications for the procedure.  Typically, the desirable effects take place from immediately to over the subsequent 3-6 months. Most of the improvement occurs in the first 3 months with continued positive changes for an additional 3 months because of the collagen stimulating effect of the threads.
What areas of the body can be treated with P.D.O. Threads?
PDO Threads can be used for brow lifts, midface lifts, glabellar lines (11's), lower eyelids, cheeks, fox eye eye lifts, crepiness of the neck, nasolabial folds, lip commissures, marionette lines, chin and jawline tightening and definition, lip border definition, skin furrows (neck and cheek wrinkles), jowls, double chin, neck lift, tech neck or necklace lines of the neck, acne scars and pits and overall skin smoothing.

How much does it cost?
Most procedures cost between $250-$500 with an entire face treatment ranging from $1100-$2500 which is far less expensive than most surgical interventions.
The procedure was a feature on E! News as it's very popular within the Hollywood scene.  Now you can get the same treatment here in Charlotte County.  I have been certified in P.D.O. Thread placement by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics and has been doing procedures for many years.
